Exceptional Moments
“The Rat,” as it is frequently called, features a full-service bar, identical menu to the upstairs Restaurant & Bar, satellite TV for sports enthusiasts, a comfortable eating area, a wood-burning fireplace for those cold nights in the winter, and a spacious lounge area separate from the bar area for events, Open Mic Night, and more.
The Gathering Spot
Rathskeller Tavern has become the area’s late - night destination, with music and special nights bringing life to this historic building and its predecessor that dates back to 1833, when it was a stagecoach stop and a brothel. It was a simple cellar then, but in the early 1980s, it became a cellar pub and was renamed “The Rathskeller,” which is German for “cellar under City Hall.” It quickly grew to become one of Frenchtown’s favorite watering holes, and is nicknamed “The Rat.” The stained glass windows behind the bar pay homage to the literal interpretation of “The Rat.”

Bi-Weekly Tuesday Trivia Night
Don't forget about our bi-weekly Tuesday Trivia night, also downstairs in the Rat. Tuesday Trivia is the brainchild of our good friend, Russ Coen. He and our General Manager, Marlon Aranha, launched Tuesday Trivia on December 28th, 2010, and it has become an instant favorite. Tuesday Trivia runs every other Tuesday from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. at The Rat, unless otherwise indicated on this page.
